Description and Overview of Program:
The Internal Medicine program is one of our institutions oldest and distinguished programs. It is a three-year program. Since 1959, we have developed a program built on the application of osteopathic principles and practice. From learning preventative medicine to ongoing management of multiple disease entities is the main goal of our program. We provide the education experience that promotes an evidence-based approach to patient care. We foster an individualize, personal and patient centered approach to health care, while emphasizing the biologic, social and emotional components of wellness as well as their effects of disease processes. The resident learns an interdisciplinary team approach to the delivery of health care. We provide adequate exposure to procedures as well as opportunity to interpret recommended studies. We have incorporated the AOA Core Competencies into each aspect of our program, to ensure the graduation of a well-trained general osteopathic internists.
The residents staff a Multispeciality Clinic, where they are the "attending" physician for a panel of patients throughout their three program years.
Rotations are scheduled on a monthly basis and take place in both the inpatient and out patient settings.
Residents must maintain BLS and ACLS certification throughout the duration of their residency.
